What does the US Constitution mean to me?

Patriotism: noun- devotion to, and vigorous support to one’s country.

This definition is what our country wants to have. But some people in the United States take the constitution for granted. In other words, we are lacking a sense of patriotism in our beautiful country. All people no matter what race, gender, or age should have the right to vote, speak their mind, and protect themselves. If we did not have this incredible list of laws our country would collapse in on itself.

The 19th amendment declares that citizens of the United States, no matter what their race or sex is, should be given the right to vote. When I turn 18 I will be given this privilege and have my voice counted as a part of this nation. If women's suffrage had not happened only male landowners would have the right to vote. Thanks to U.S. Representative James R. Mann, and his mother for slipping a note into his pocket convincing him to vote for the 19th amendment. Because of them I and the rest of the women in this country have the right to vote.

The 1st amendment states that we shall have the freedom to speak our minds peacefully and practice the religion we believe in. Without these rights, citizens would not be able to protest, express an opinion that is different from their government, or practice the religion that they see fit. In this day and age where false media seems to take over everything, it’s a relief to be able to express an honest opinion. Other countries choose to omit these laws and put people in prison for doing so.

The second amendment proclaims that we have the right to bear arms and to protect ourselves and our property. This right in some states is being taken away from us. I, however, believe that it should stay. We then are justified in protecting ourselves against fellow citizens as well as a government that is not serving its people anymore.

Without the constitution our country would be in complete chaos. I greatly appreciate the patriots who fought for our freedom. To be able to live in a land with the right to free speech, voting, and protecting is a true honor.
