Constitution Contest Rules

Dear Montana Students,

I am pleased to invite you to participate in the the 2023 Secretary of State’s Constitution Contest – “What Promises of the Preamble to the U.S. Constitution Mean the Most to Me and Why?”.

Constitution Day is September 17. This is the day we celebrate our Constitution, and it’s a wonderful opportunity to get together with your family and teachers and discuss the importance of the document by which this country was founded.

The US Constitution Contest promotes civic engagement. It provides a time where you can explore this amazing document. Please watch my video below on the power of this amazing document. You may be surprised to know that a student, like you, made a big change to the US Constitution. After you watch the video, I invite you to participate in the Constitution Contest. Just follow the directions on this page to submit your entry. Thank you, Montana students! Our state’s students are awesome, and I can’t wait to see what you submit.

Good luck,

Christi Jacobsen
Montana Secretary of State

What should I write about?

This year’s 2023 contest – “What Promises of the Preamble Mean the Most to Me and Why?” – opens on September 18 and is due on October 9, 2023. The month of September is the perfect time for you to engage in a conversation about the Constitution with friends, family, or your teacher. Our Constitution is rich in its history and its formation.
